Dunston Aire, Shopper Beware!!

Excessive pricing for FREON at Dunston Aire
You might want to think twice before calling this company for Air Conditioning
service in or around RALEIGH, NC!

NOTE: Dunston Aire advertises the phone number 919-662-4094 on their website, however, they have listed 919-291-9854 with the Better Business Bureau. I wonder why?

I am posting this in hopes that I can save many others the unfortunate surprise that I faced: $40 per pound for FREON? Apparently so at Dunston Aire, but out of 6 other places in the Raleigh area that I called for a quote, the highest price was $25 per pound. I questioned this charge after service had been performed at my home, called Greg with Dunston Aire, and sent one letter and one email to Dunston Aire, but received no response - and still have not received one. I reported this to the BBB of Eastern NC as well. Here is the letter I sent Dunston-Aire, I will post the email and the BBB report, as soon as time permits:

Greg:

As I indicated to you on the phone yesterday, I do appreciate you coming to service my unit on such short notice. I did mention to you when you were here that I chose your company because you are a member of the Better Business Bureau, and I believe in the principles established by the BBB, so I use only BBB members to provide service.

As such, I expect those . like myself . who are members to adhere to fair business practices. After you left my residence, I made 7 phone calls to area Heating and Cooling companies. The average price charge for FREON by those 7 random companies I called was about $20.00 / lb. The highest amount charged was $25 / lb, and two companies had that price, while the lowest was $18.50. Based on these findings, I feel that you overcharged me by $15 /lb for the two lbs of FREON on the invoice, and I would like for you to reimburse me with a check for $30 for the overcharge (2 lbs * $15). I feel that the $40 / lb price was very unfair.

As a member of the Better Business Bureau, it is our duty to ensure that both we and other members who we do business with maintain high standards, including fair pricing. I chose to contact you first, because I think we can resolve this difference without having to involve the BBB. I am not sure why I was charged such a high price, however, I am certain that you will find that there are few companies in Raleigh charging more than $25/lb.

Please feel free to contact me at 919-XXX-XXXX, if necessary, and I sincerely hope that we can resolve this issue between us, and that I have no need to contact the BBB.

Thanks for your time,

Joe
